A Toast to the Girl Who Fills My Glass

Earlier this week we celebrated your birthday, and even though you’re much too young to “toast” the traditional way, I wanted to write this to say thank you for inspiring me. There’s always more that could be said, but I want to keep this short and sweet – just like you.

    To My First Little Love,

When you were born, you made the world seem so bright. I was pretty certain I would feel that way, I just didn’t realize how intense the feeling would be. Even though I hadn’t experienced motherhood before, I actually felt prepared for some of the ways that my life would change. And, as with many things in life, there was so much I couldn’t have prepared for. For one example, I had no idea that I would have to step away from a job that I loved to stay home with you. But, no matter what, I loved you more. So much was uncertain, but I was certain that you needed me. It turns out, I needed you too. Some days felt pretty long and I talked to you a lot, but I also had plenty of time to think and reflect. And so I did. One day, I just decided to write down my thoughts. Doing so wasn’t completely foreign to me, but I hadn’t done it in a long time. You are the reason I started writing again, but most importantly, you are the reason I gained the courage to create this blog and share what I’m writing. I am always striving to do better and be better – for myself, for others, for you! I feel compelled to write down my thoughts and put them into action. I realize that sharing these things might help others, and sharing can also hold me accountable. I know that when I’m not writing, you are watching.

Know that I am watching you too. I am so proud of the girl you are growing up to be. I never imagined that my love for you would grow right along with you. I am so grateful for you. Thank you for making my glass half full

    Love always,

    Mom
